Here are some of the new varieties that will be offered next year: Delta and Pine Land Company After Monsanto’s acquisition of D&PL, the company quickly announced several new Bollgard II/Roundup Ready Flex cotton products for 2008. “We believe these new lines are ones that cotton producers will want to try in 2008,” says Keylon Gholston, D&PL cotton product manager. “They were tested in 2007 on-farm trials and join other varieties to form our 2008 commercial offerings.” New Varieties DP 141 B2RF Bayer CropScience After Bayer’s recent acquisition of Stoneville, USDA reports that 44.4 percent of cotton is now planted by groups associated with the parent company. That includes FiberMax, Stoneville, AFD and the traits previously carried by CPCSD, purchased earlier in 2007. While no new FiberMax or AFD varieties are being offered in ‘08, Stoneville will introduce five new varieties to its portfolio. New Varieties ST 4498B2RF Dow AgroSciences EPA recently approved a natural refuge option for WideStrike, found exclusively in Dow’s PhytoGen cottonseed. Now cotton producers in many areas won’t be required to plant a non-Bt cotton refuge for varieties with WideStrike. A non-Bt cotton refuge is still required for WideStrike varieties planted outside of eligible areas for the natural refuge option. PhytoGen will offer five new varieties for ‘08. New Varieties PHY 830 Pima Americot With Americot’s acquisition of the NexGen variety brand, it is now the second largest seed company in Texas. One new Americot variety will be offered in ‘08 and five new NexGen varieties will be launched. New Varieties AM 1550 B2RF All-Tex As a long-time supplier of seed to Texas producers, All-Tex has added six Roundup Ready Flex varieties to its 2008 offering. In addition, the company will have five Roundup Ready Flex/Bollgard II varieties, two Roundup Ready varieties and one new conventional variety. New Varieties ATX 66330 RF CropLan Genetics CropLan Genetics will have five varieties available in 2008, including a new B2RF variety and a new Roundup Ready Flex variety. New Varieties CG 3220B2RF Dyna-Gro Dyna-Gro will offer eight varieties next year, and two of them will be new. One is a Roundup Ready Flex and the other is a Bollgard II/Roundup Ready Flex. New Varieties DG 2400 RF Hazera Hazera will once again offer three varieties for the ‘08 season – all geared toward Pima growing conditions in the San Joaquin Valley.
