It’s Time To Choose
Seed Varieties For ‘08

With multiple company acquisitions and consolidations, producers will have even more choices to make seed variety decisions for the ‘08 season.

Here are some of the new varieties that will be offered next year:

Delta and Pine Land Company

After Monsanto’s acquisition of D&PL, the company quickly announced several new Bollgard II/Roundup Ready Flex cotton products for 2008.

“We believe these new lines are ones that cotton producers will want to try in 2008,” says Keylon Gholston, D&PL cotton product manager. “They were tested in 2007 on-farm trials and join other varieties to form our 2008 commercial offerings.”

After Bayer’s recent acquisition of Stoneville, USDA reports that 44.4 percent of cotton is now planted by groups associated with the parent company. That includes FiberMax, Stoneville, AFD and the traits previously carried by CPCSD, purchased earlier in 2007.

While no new FiberMax or AFD varieties are being offered in ‘08, Stoneville will introduce five new varieties to its portfolio.

Now cotton producers in many areas won’t be required to plant a non-Bt cotton refuge for varieties with WideStrike. A non-Bt cotton refuge is still required for WideStrike varieties planted outside of eligible areas for the natural refuge option.
