New Farming Survey Helps Industry’s
Research Efforts

Feb, 2005

Along with several universities in the South and Southeast, Cotton Incorporated is sponsoring a cotton precision farming survey in February 2005.

Producers have the opportunity to express their opinions about precision farming, a budding branch of technology with great economic potential. The survey will assess the value cotton farmers find in precision farming and determine their perceptions and motives for embracing or avoiding these technologies.

The 20-minute survey will be mailed randomly and will address yield monitors, grid soil sampling, GPS systems, variable rate applicators and more. Roland Roberts, professor of agricultural economics at University of Tennessee, says this data will help researchers.

“Their input is key to our research initiatives,” Roberts says, “so we ask that they take the time to complete it to the best of their ability.”
