Busy Program Awaits Crowd Attending Mid-South Gin Show

Farmers, agribusiness representatives and others interested in Mid-South agriculture will converge on the Memphis Cook Convention Center on March 3-4 for the Mid-South Farm & Gin Show, the South’s largest indoor farm show.

Cotton Board Announces Two Additions To Staff

The Cotton Board has announced the hiring of Paul Dugger as regional director for Field Services and Suzanne Dangerfield as executive assistant to the president.

As the regional director of Field Services in the West, Dugger will serve as the direct link to the Cotton Research & Promotion Program for upland cotton producers as well as industry leaders in Arizona, California and New Mexico.

As a regional representative, he will also attend various industry meetings, speak on behalf of the Cotton Research & Promotion program and keep Cotton Board senior staff and Board members informed of important issues in the field which may affect the operation of the program.

Dangerfield, a native of Hattiesburg, Miss., joins the Cotton Board after spending 20 years as executive assistant to the president of the Memphis Regional Chamber of Commerce. She will assist in administrative support to the Cotton Board’s executive managers, as well as monitoring and maintaining the organization’s extensive meeting schedule.

She will also assist in the general communications activities among the Cotton Board staff, Board members and USDA.

Stoneville, NexGen Include Seed Treatments

Producers purchasing Stoneville and NexGen brand cottonseed for the 2006 season will benefit from a choice of premium seed treatments that provide control of nematodes, diseases and early-season cotton insects.

“Stoneville and NexGen cottonseed are already known for their superior emergence and rapid stand establishment,” says Kyle Maple, U.S. cotton marketing manager.

“Offering these seed brands with protective seed treatments will further enhance our customers’ efforts to obtain quick emergence and a healthy, uniform stand.”

Seed treatment options for Stoneville and NexGen cottonseed in 2006 include Gaucho Grande insecticide, Avicta Complete Pak, Cruiser insecticide and Dynasty fungicide.

“All of these top-performing seed treatments will help growers protect their seed investment, the elite germplasm and the latest biotechnology traits offered by these major cottonseed brands,” Maple explains.

UAP To Offer Avicta To Farmers This Year

United Agri Products has announced that it is adding the Avicta Complete Pak to its seed treatment portfolio. The new product offers cotton producers a “total system” seed treatment package that provides seed and seedling disease control, early season insect control and early season nematode control.

The Avicta Complete Pak provides the farmer with an alternative to using an in-furrow product for fungal, insect and nematode control.

UAP will utilize its Greenville, Miss., and Brownfield, Texas, locations for the application of the Avicta Complete Pak.

Bayer Plans To Unveil New PGR Product

Bayer CropScience has announced the debut of Stance SC plant regulator for the 2006 crop season.

The new product will feature a standard rate that removes some of the guesswork that has existed for mepiquat-based applications, company officials say.

For cottonseed varieties with moderate vegetative vigor, producers can apply two ounces per acre as needed to control growth. For high vegetative vigor, producers can apply three ounces per acre as needed.

A wealth of data collected the past two years from numerous university Extension specialists and independent crop consultants have laid the foundation for a successful launch of the plant regulator, according to a recent company announcement.

The university trials were conducted with 20 Extension specialists from 15 states, according to Donny Oleniczak, product manager. For more information, call (919) 549-2415 in Research Triangle Park, N.C.
