Rice Lands And Birds
According to a US North American Bird Conservation Initiative report, privately owned rice lands "support approximately 45% of the North American wintering duck population...and...provide an estimated 60% of all dabbling duck foods in the Central Valley of California, 35% of all food along the Gulf Coast and 70% of food in the Mississippi Alluvial Valley." The report goes on to say "...private lands have critical conservation value, and landowners can measure their yield not only in bushels, but also in bluebirds, hawks and canvasbacks."
Conservation And Lands
The National Association of Conservation Districts and the Bureau of Land Management have signed a cooperative agreement that supports the work of both organizations in natural resource management. The agreement renews a longstanding partnership and is intended to form a framework for cooperation that supports the common goals and interests of both organizations in managing, developing and protecting federal and private land and water resources in an environmentally and economically sound manner.
