AMVAC Commissions New Folex Production Unit

American Vanguard Corporation, through its wholly-owned subsidiary AMVAC Chemical Corporation (AMVAC), recently commissioned its new Folex synthesis unit at the company’s Axis, Ala., plant. The company began its first full week of production on July 2. AMVAC has added jobs at the plant based on the addition of the new unit, as well as an increase in volumes with other products made at the plant.

Folex 6 EC, a cotton defoliant, has maintained steady volumes over the years, and the new unit will free capacity in the plant that is needed to meet the increase in demand for granular corn soil insecticide products, such as Aztec and SmartChoice.

The Axis, Ala., facility is the principal location for the manufacturing of AMVAC’s granular corn soil insecticides. To recognize the new FOLEX unit and the company’s commitment to U.S.-based manufacturing, AMVAC held a Celebrate America event for its customers, suppliers, producers and plant employees.

FMC Launches Triple Crown Insecticide

Producers now have a new product with three-way protection against aphids, stinkbugs and other key pests. FMC Corporation has announced the commercial release of Triple Crown insecticide for soybean, corn and cotton crops with residual and translaminar activity.

As a combination pyrethroid and neo-nicotinoid insecticide, Triple Crown offers post-systemic and contact activity in the plant. Its translaminar activity penetrates through the leaf to control pests with piercing or sucking mouth parts, including aphids. Triple Crown provides additional control of other key foliar pests.

“Triple Crown complements other FMC insecticides, including Hero and Stallion, which can be used in soybeans, cotton and other crops,” says Joe Reed, technical services representative of FMC Agricultural Products.

Ga. Cotton Commission Reviews Research

The Georgia Cotton Commission board members and advisors visited with Cotton Team researchers in June in Tifton. In-progress research was observed on the Lang-Rigdon Farm, Ponder Farm, Gibbs and ABAC Farms and the RDC Pivot Field. Over the course of the day, the group took the opportunity to ask questions and get in-depth descriptions of the work from researchers at plot-side work that is funded by the Georgia Cotton Commission, with producer assessment dollars.

This annual exercise is another way to continue the enhancement of the Commission’s producer-funded research program. Many important aspects of production are covered with this current research: Cover cropping systems, cotton physiology, fertility, engineering, insect research, weed control, cotton breeding, pathology, agronomics, insecticide resistance monitoring and economics.
