Are you encouraged about the prospect of increased cotton acres in 2014?

At Valent, we are very excited about the possibility of increased cotton acres in 2014. This certainly ties in nicely with our new Fierce herbicide that will help us in the ongoing battle with resistant pigweeds. We had good cotton last year even in situations where we didn’t think we could make it. I am just really excited to see those acres coming back. Ag Secretary Vilsack Announces Cotton Board Appointments

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has announced the appointment of 17 members and 17 alternates to The Cotton Board. The Cotton Board is appointed by the Secretary to oversee the Cotton Research & Promotion Program. All appointees will serve three-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2014, and ending Dec. 31, 2016. What are you hoping for in the 2014 cotton crop season?

I am hoping for a lot of things, and I certainly hope that by the time this magazine is published in January that we’ll have a Farm Bill. We need for that to happen, along with a settlement of the WTO/Brazil case. And I am also hoping for some stability in the markets – especially as it pertains to China and India. It distresses me that these two countries’ actions can have such a significant impact on what happens to U.S. cotton in terms of cotton prices. Read More »
