The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service has issued its 2020 acreage report, which confirms planted cotton acreage is less this season than it was in 2019.
All cotton planted area for 2020 is estimated at 12.2 million acres, down 11% from 2019, according to the report. Upland area is estimated at 12 million acres, down 1% from 2019. American Pima area is estimated at 195,000 acres, down 15% from 2019.
Every state saw a decrease in planted acreage except for Kansas, which saw plantings climb to 195,000 from 175,000 in 2019. Oklahoma acreage remained stable at 640,000 for both years, according to the report.
