USDA Accepting Comments On Monsanto’s New Technology
USDA is now accepting public comments on the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Monsanto’s next generation dicamba-tolerant weed management technologies, Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans and Bollgard II XtendFlex cotton. This follows USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) announcement that it has completed the draft EIS on Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans and Bollgard II XtendFlex cotton. APHIS indicated that its preferred alternative is to deregulate both crops. Monsanto officials believe this is a positive step in the process and anticipate final USDA deregulation by the end of the year. The company is encouraging farmers, dealers and all stakeholders to make their voices heard and weigh in during the public comment period, open until Sept. 25.
