Specialists Speaking
Zachary Treadway / ARKANSAS
As I write this, it’s Feb. 9, and there are still slight traces of snow out of my window in Northeast Arkansas. Although we have just thawed out, we will be looking at planting season before we know it. There is no better time than now to make variety and seeding decisions.
The decisions we make at this time of year will linger throughout the growing season, so it’s vital we make the right ones. I think I speak for all the specialists in this section when I say that we strive, through our variety trial programs, to provide unbiased, data-based information to our producers to make these critical decisions.
In Arkansas, the results of our variety trials are posted online for all to see. It’s also worth mentioning that we aren’t too far away from those spring burn downs, which are vital to maximizing cotton yields. We must start clean to stay clean. As always, if you have any questions, please reach out: ztreadway@uada.edu. ∆
